SITE

Located within Borough Market, a place famous for being one of London’s most renowned food markets sits Floral Hall. A Grade II listed building that originally stood in Covent Garden as part of the Royal Opera House before being relocated.

CONCEPT

My concept originated from the location and the wonderful food market that characterizes the area. From here I began looking at book markets thinking it would be wonderful to merge the chaos of the market with intimate places to read and write and enjoy the local food from the area.  I also decided to incorporate an event space to allow book launches and signings to take place and draw people in.

PROPOSED USE

My proposed use for the building is as a public building providing various areas for book lovers to meet, read, write and enjoy books. The building will be comprised of various areas including:

  • Book Market
  • Places to read and relax
  • Informal meeting areas
  • Formal meeting areas
  • Bookstore
The concept is to provide a paradise for all things books, merging the hustle and bustle of the food market with the relaxation and enjoyment of reading a good book.
