Ideally located in the heart of Shoreditch the tramshed was originally an electricity generating station for the Shoreditch Tram System. It is only a three minute walk from Liverpool Street Station making it an ideal area for an Urban Farm School.

BRIEF

To  research and design a school based upon the Montessori philosophy for children Ages 12 to 15 years.  While designing the facilites research and incorporate sustainable concepts to make the school environmentally friendly.

CONCEPT

The concept developed from Dr. Montessori’s philosophy that children need to work and feel a sense of independence between theages of 12 and 15. Often preoccupied with other issues than math and science, the school provides the necessary resources to allow  children to explore their own interests while being guided by teachers and peers.

In order to allow students in the city the opportunity to study under the Montessori system past the age of 11, my goal was to design a farm that merges the farm work and mentality with the city environment.
